According to the Hindu calendar, Guru Purnima always falls on the full moon day of the Shakha Samavat. The Guru Purnima will be celebrated this year on July 13, 2022.
Guru is a Sanskrit word that refers to an educator, counselor, or anybody who imparts knowledge. Gurus are essential in people’s lives and make a significant contribution to fostering and shaping children’s overall personalities. People choose a variety of methods on the evening of Guru Purnima to express them reverence, thanks, affection, and reverence toward their Gurus and to ask for their favours.
According to Hindus, Ved Vyasa (son of Sage Parashar and Devi Satyawati) was instrumental in the composition of the Mahabharata, Vedas, and Purans. For instance, Hindus adore Lord Shiva (also known as Adiyogi), Jainists worship Mahavira and Indrabhuti Gautam, and Buddhists admire Gautam Buddha.
Annually, Buddhist-influenced nations such as India, Nepal, and Bhutan commemorate Guru Purnima with tremendous zeal and dedication. In the event of Guru Purnima, people pay homage and devotion to their Gurus (teachers) in a variety of ways, including praying, fasting, reciting mantras, executing specific rituals, and so on. Various individuals celebrate Guru Purnima in different ways. Some monasteries and ashrams organize ceremonies, such as prayer recitals by pupils, to honor their Gurus.

Donation and immersion in the Ganges are both very important on Ashadha Purnima. On this day, one should offer thanks to all the Guru’s elders and revere them as Guru.
